The Chapel Hill Town Operations Center was guided by three core principles: sustainable development, environmental sensitivity, and fiscal responsibility. The facility consolidates the town's transportation and public works departments on an 88-acre campus. The 155,000-square-foot complex includes four primary buildings and eight support structures housing administration, field operations, fleet maintenance, transportation operations, and bus maintenance functions. Sustainable design strategies, including a geothermal heating and cooling system and extensive daylighting, help conserve resources, reduce energy consumption, and minimize environmental impact.
